Learning Task 7 : Fifty Pumpkins

I tried very hard at this and my brain wouldn't allow me to go any further.  A pumpkin can only do so much for me.  It may have been easier to do this in pen and paper but I felt like I would challenged myself using photoshop.  I liked my final design which I felt held a strong tension between the two pumpkins.  Like they were kissing.  It is reminiscent of some photographs that Belinda Winkler took of her ceramic sculptures.

Learning Task 13: Good and bad type

Bad Fonts

while this isnt a bad font it is not helping to entice anyone to coming for a walk due to its blandness.

I find the immaturity of this font not severe enough to get the message across.

While this isn't a bad font and style and this photo doesn't do it justice, but I find the words and the background to be too close together to read from a distance.  Not great for a poster which is meant to be read from a distance.

While I do like this font, it lacks seriousness and is hard to read.
Unfortunately this is a horribly constructed front cover that uses a highly pixelated font.
Again, nothing wrong with the font but I am sure they could have found something more Moroccanny

GOOD FONTS

The scribbled in writing suggests something arty! Same as below.

Visually works and visually suggests the word that it is meant to.  Does that make sense?

Fast, clean and reliable.  The font.

Tough looking font for tough bikes.

Hard to tell, but the child like font is covered in dots to represent glitter.

Learning Task 14 : Poster Design (Using type to express feelings/ emotions)

new font for what is behind the cage.
'cracked' to give it a more trapped and distressed look.
I was drawn to this quote due to its visual qualities.  The use of the word GOLD and CAGE immediately evoke images and emotions.  I used a hard block type font for the bars and made them a gold colour.  I repeated the quote down the length of the bar.  Behind the cage bars I placed the quote again using a beautiful cursive font.  The quote in black was too hard to read so I faded the gold bars slightly.

Learning Activity 8: Grid layout

These two on the left use clear gridlines.   Top uses 4 and is from a tattoo magazine "Inked"and below uses 3 from a design/fashion mage called "Yen".  Both effectively.

Above is from a craft catalogue and uses 3 grids.

Above is from a cover of a graph pad that uses a strong gridline system.

Both images from above use no clear gridding, system opting to go for the sound use of white space.  I prefer this non-cluttered more crisp example.

Learning Activity 10: Sketching layouts

Above is a sketch of a website ideally for my mothers design business.  She has an existing one but I think it is toilet.
Above is a sketch of a swimming club I used to run. SBSC.

Above is a sketch of an idea for a business card.  You will have to imagine it turned 90 degrees to the right.  I have lopped the corners off to give it a pint of difference with other cards, it also reflects the O.

The HO come from my nick name which is HOLT,

Learning Task 9: Gutenberg Flow

I found this layout using a great sense if flow on the internet.  The 'free cd' white text on red background works well at catching your eye.  This is followed by Freddie's face and the glowing Queen text.  A solid example of the Gutenberg flow.
