Learning Task 11:Typeface Panel

I found this font on dafont.com which is a wonderful site for exciting fonts.  Unfortunately it doesn't come with numbers, symbols or a true lower case so its uses are at times limited.  I would use this type of font in a grungy music label or skating layout as it references stencil graffiti.

An artist/designer Billy Argel designed this font.  Argel uses street culture as his inspiration for a lot of his works and also works with a range of other materials including spray, ink etc.

Learning Activity 6: Whitespace

• Print-publishing (magazines / newspapers)

I found this in a fashion magazine "Yen". This is an advert for The brand Hunk Dory and shows good use of white space to create and emphasis on the figure.

• Street advertising (billboards/ shop-frontage)

A very groovy looking cafe that uses this minimalist shop frontage to draw your attention to its name.  Even the black hipster bike out the front is great,

A great billboard using white space.  Not only does it visually look good, it reinforces the message of the power saving company.

As soon as I started thinking of great use of white space and great advertising campaigns I automatically thought of apple.  Their page layouts and adverts mirror their products sleek, minimal design.

I thought this was a very clever and a bit naughty representation of the tv show 'californication.'  Through use of white space and a minimalist layout the designer has suggest a female form with only the palate a triangle, very sharp.
