These two on the left use clear gridlines. Top uses 4 and is from a tattoo magazine "Inked"and below uses 3 from a design/fashion mage called "Yen". Both effectively.
Above is from a craft catalogue and uses 3 grids.
Above is from a cover of a graph pad that uses a strong gridline system.
Both images from above use no clear gridding, system opting to go for the sound use of white space. I prefer this non-cluttered more crisp example.
