Making backgrounds for web pages

I enjoy this one above because of the powerful image.  The website works well because it doesn't try and compete with the image, rather the links work harmoniously.

 Due to the limited colour palette of this forest scene the background image becomes more of a design element than an image.  A Shape.  This, combined with a good colour palette are successful.
Like the image above the colour palette is similar to the image.  It is limited and complimentary.

Some images will simply not work when tiling.  I found that organic forms and textures lend themselves well rather than figurative or man made.Taking time to blend edges can be time consuming but made easier with good image selection.
